Margarete (Kirchoff) Wisla

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Margarete Wisla (nee Kirchoff), on December 29, 2021, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.  Margarete passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Margarete was born in Germany in 1938.  In 1960 she met a visiting Canadian soldier, Gerald Wisla. They were married in Germany and in 1962 the couple and their first born son, Michael, moved to Gerald’s hometown of Hinton, Alberta.  Margarete and Gerald resided in Hinton, briefly in Edmonton, and in Prince Rupert, before returning permanently to Hinton.  Along the way Margarete and Gerald had two more sons, Martin and Corey.  Margarete is now reunited with Gerald who passed away in 2006.

Leaving to mourn Margarete’s passing are her three sons Michael (Heather), Martin (Joanne), and Corey (Melanie). Margarete also leaves 5 grandchildren: Katrina Harding (Clayton), Stephanie, Robert, and Nathaniel and Richard, as well as her great granddaughter Elizabeth. She also leaves many relatives and friends in Canada and Germany.

Margarete is predeceased by her husband Gerald, mother Margarete, father Wilhelm, and sisters Helga and Ursula. 

Margarete will always be remembered for her dedication to her family, her boys and their spouses, her grandchildren and her special great grandchild.  She will also be remembered for her love of travel, from bus tours to fishing trips, and of course her appreciation of the Oilers and the Blue Jays.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hinton Health Care Foundation or a charity of your choice are gratefully accepted.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, in the Spring.
