It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of wife, mother and grandmother, Lucy Sain, who died peacefully at the Hinton Continuing Care Centre, on October 20th,2023, at the Golden Age of 93.
Mom was born at Radway, Alberta, on December 16th,1929, to Ukrainian immigrants Irina and Nicholai Mazurenko. She was the 3rd youngest of six children who were raised on a farm near Egremont, Alberta, and right across the farm road from Edward, her childhood sweetheart, later to become her husband.
Dad got work at Ocean Falls, B.C., and sent for her to join him, where they later married on December 30th, 1950. Making it their first home, they had a son, Trevor, on November 21st, 1954, until Dad moved the family to Hinton, where he assisted in the start up of North Western Pulp & Power. It is where they set roots and made Hinton their permanent home and welcomed a daughter, Debra, born September 9th, 1960.
Mom was a happy-homemaker, raising us both, tending to the yard and her numerous flowers, along with a small veggie garden. She kept an immaculate yard and took great pride in maintaining it. Crafting, sewing and knitting were some of her hobbies that she enjoyed very much. She doted over her granddaughters who were the light of her life, and never far from her thoughts. She ventured on a cross Canada trip with Dad in 1985 and enjoyed often visiting her dear friends in B.C.
Mom leaves to cherish memories her husband of 72 years, Edward, daughter, Debra (Mel) Benbow, granddaughters, Ashley (Kevin) Heitland, and Gillian (Doug) Bennison, a brother-in-law, Ernest (Diane) Sain, Samantha, a sister Eileen Weigel, numerous relatives and friends. She is pre-deceased by her son, Trevor, September 21st,2022.
Mom lived her life fully, loved her family and friends dearly. It was her zest for life and a strong determination to keep her independence that kept her going until her passing.
