We deeply mourn the passing of our dearest Mama, Lourdes Macatangay (Lou, Des or Lourds as she is fondly called by friends) on …
She is survived by her five daughters Elvira (Ver), Maria Luisa (Serge), Luz (Nito), Editha and Alma (Joey), nine grandchildren Yvette, Valerie Ann, Eryka, Stephanie, Alexi, Justin, Keith, James, and Francis, and six great grandchildren, Makenna, Keon, Theo, Ysla, Ezra and Lukas.
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she was married to Luis Macatangay and later on bore an only son, Alex Luis, who both predeceased her.
She and husband Luis migrated to Canada in 1992. Lourdes was a loving wife and doting mother to her children and adored by her grandchildren and great grandkids.
She was a study in contrast with her simple nature, and her keen fashion sense, from head to foot, complete with matching accessories even up to her days at Edson Continuing Care. Her fellow patients would always wait in anticipation at mealtime, to see what outfit she would be wearing each day. Her skin was flawless with the barest makeup and just a touch of lipstick.
Lourdes was an exemplary homemaker, maintaining a spic and span house and a well-organized household. She had excellent culinary skills so that we happily feasted on the delicious food she always prepared for family and friends with gusto.
While she was in the Philippines, she was a member in our community church with the Catholic Women’s League and actively participated as an officer in our homeowners’ association.
She lived an active life here in Canada with the CWL and as a regular church goer. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Thrift shop and coffee time with her circle of friends. She also had a short stint at Smitty’s kitchen.
She had a big heart, generous to a fault, always ready to help out family, friends and neighbors in any way she can. That is why she is well loved and respected everywhere she may be.
She leaves us a legacy of humility, compassion, respect for others and a strong faith in God which she instilled in all of us.
If you wish to make any donations, they can be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edson, in Lourdes name.
