Lorraine Hunt Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Lorraine Valerie Hunt on June 19, 2023, at the age of 75.

Valerie is survived by her daughters; Dana (Grant) Graham and Pam (Mark) Lenihan; grandchildren; Kayla Graves, Justin (Brandy), Jordan (Lael) and Breccan Lenihan. She is also survived by her siblings; Willy, Bob, Larry, Liz, Gerry, Doug and their families. She also leaves behind her in-laws; Iva, Sharon, Gloria and their families; as well as a large extended family and many close friends. Val was also mom to many foster children.

Valerie was predeceased by her husband Harvey in 2021. Their 50 years of marriage showed us all a picture of true love and what soulmates really are.

Valerie was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She was a true prairie girl at heart, who married the love of her life, Harvey, in 1970 and then moved to Hinton AB.

She was a stay-at-home mom and apartment manager for many years where she could cook, bake, can, help out at school and just always be around. Later, she worked in daycare and when the time was right, she returned to school and proudly became a Health Care Aide. She was a foster mom for over 40 years and welcomed many children into the home. She loved to camp, fish and garden.

She believed in helping others and loved to volunteer. She believed everyone should “pitch in” and that “many hands make light work”. Over the years she kept her hands busy helping with the Lions Club, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Pine Valley Lodge Society, Resident Care Foundation, Alberta Foster Parents and so much more.

She encouraged everyone to believe in themselves, go after what they wanted, and to dream big. “You can do it” & “good job” cheers were commonly heard along the road to achievement for many who knew her.

Val taught us all the true meaning of family by showing us what family and family time really is. Her heart and home were always open to all.

In recent years her health may have slowed her down a little, but she kept busy with puzzles, crocheting and quilting.

She will be deeply missed by all who have ever been on the receiving end of her “nice words”, advice, encouragement, friendship and love. Next time you need a little cheering-on listen closely and we're sure you will hear Val there trying to make a difference. We are comforted in knowing you are with the Lord and reunited with Harvey to dance and love on eternally.

When we feel the whisper of the wind, we will know you are now breathing easy.

A private family interment will occur.
