Lorna Mahoney Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorna Irene Mahoney on September 24, 2024, at the age of 55. Lorna passed away unexpectedly on vacation with her life partner Aaron, grandchildren Aubrey and Isla, and daughter-in-law Kayla, in Vernon, BC. This was a place they all frequented yearly and made lasting memories that will never be forgotten.

Lorna was born to Virginia Smith and Mel Mahoney on December 16, 1968, in Toronto, ON. She is survived by her husband, Aaron Davis; son, Jesse Jackson (Kayla Wiseman); grandchildren Aubrey and Isla Jackson; mother, Virginia Smith; sister Shannon Hill (Raymond); nephew, Ray Hill and niece, Hallie Dodge. She was predeceased by her father, Mel Mahoney.

Lorna spent her early years in Calgary, AB, where she lived with her father, papa and sister. She had a very close bond and relationship with her Papa Mahoney, whom she loved and adored. In 1979, Lorna moved to Grande Cache.

It was here in Grande Cache where she built a memorable life, forging relationships that grew and flourished over the years. It is where she met her lifelong friends who were more like sisters and accompanied her through many stages of her life.

Lorna graduated from the Grande Cache Community High School in 1987 and spread her wings with many new adventures all over Alberta and British Columbia.

In 1990, Lorna and Mike Jackson were blessed with the greatest treasure of all, their son Jesse, whom she loved more than life itself. Lorna and Mike remained lifelong friends over the years, setting an example of true friendship. Jesse, Aaron and Grande Cache remained the touch stones of her life, even if the road took her elsewhere, it was always Grande Cache that remained her home. It was where all her people were, and there are too many to count.

In 1996, Lorna was working at the Grande Cache Hotel Lounge alongside her best friend Gail Dupuis, when she met the love of her life, Aaron Davis, and the rest of Lorna’s life began. Aaron quickly became Lorna’s person. He lifted her up in ways nobody else could, he welcomed Jesse into his life as his own, and together built a life for themselves and for Jesse that was full of love.

In 2008, Lorna moved to Edmonton to attend the European Institute of Esthetics where she graduated with honours in the esthetics program. Lorna stayed for an extra three months to obtain her Cidesco certificate in advanced esthetics which was something she was very proud of.

Shortly after that, Aaron helped Lorna bring her dreams to life by opening her very own spa, NVU Esthetics. From 2009 until present day, Lorna dedicated herself and career to serving the people of Grande Cache at her spa. It was one of the many joys she had in life, and she was so passionate about her spa and everyone who walked through the doors. She continued to advance in her career over the years, never passing up an opportunity to learn more, gain another certification and build her knowledge in the esthetics industry.

Lorna always put her all into everything she did. Her church, Corner Stone Mountain Assembly, was her home. From the time she was a child until present day, she found solitude within the walls of the church. Most recently, Lorna started the Kids Church Program at Corner Stone. It did not take long for numbers to climb as she instilled the love of Jesus into the youth. She made every lesson fun and meaningful for the kids and was always working on the next lesson and interactive learning to ensure the children of Corner Stone had many tools to be close to Jesus. The most important gift she left for us all.

Lorna’s life was cut too short, but in the time she did have here, she lived every day with a grateful heart. She was always up for a challenge, a new adventure and making new friends. All walks of life had room at her table, and there was plenty of tea visits with people over the years.

Lorna instilled a love for the Lord in her two grandchildren, and they regularly attended Sunday Service with Nana. She often shared the following with them, one of Lorna’s favourite scriptures from Matthew 6:26-27:

 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns;

yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

Lorna will be forever remembered by anyone who was fortunate enough to know her, but especially by those who loved her the most.
