It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Laura Proud (nee Huitema), 34, of Edson, Alberta, on March 8th, 2025.
Born on September 15th, 1990, in Barrie, Ontario, Laura was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. She was a loving wife to Tim and a devoted mother to her young daughter, Azalea, whose laughter and joy filled her heart. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Laura is deeply mourned by her parents: her father, Harold, and his wife Audrey and by Laura’s mother, Peggy Huitema. She is also survived by her brother Adam Huitema (Liz), sister Melanie Norris (Matt) and stepsister Allison Vander Ploeg. Laura’s caring and vibrant personality made her a true friend to many, and she will be remembered with love and admiration by all who knew her.
Laura had many passions that defined her. She was an avid golfer, excelling on the course and never missing the chance to enjoy a good golf course hot dog. She was also known for her boundless creativity and was a talented craftsperson. During the warmer months, she could often be found wearing her beloved Crocs—her footwear of choice for any occasion. True to her Dutch roots, she had a deep fondness for a good smoked gouda, which always brought a smile to her face.
Laura’s memory will live on through her loving family and the countless friends whose lives she touched. Her legacy of warmth, kindness, and joy will forever be cherished.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Laura’s life will be held on March 30th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edson Legion. All who knew and loved Laura are invited to attend and share in remembering her beautiful spirit.
