It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announce the passing of husband, father and grandfather Joseph Réjean (Reg) Gagnon in Edson, AB on March 20, 2022, at the age of 75.
Réjean was born in 1946 in St. Donat, Québec and was the eldest of his six siblings, Marc, Jocelyn, Gaetane, Simon, Solange and Stéphane. The family eventually located to Rimouski, Québec where Réjean attended school. After graduating, he moved to Montreal and worked in construction. In search of new opportunities, he found work in the logging industry, first in Saskatchewan, then in Edson, where he met the love of his life, Margaret, and her daughter Denise. They were married on May 20, 1972, and Réjean embraced Denise as his own. Two sons came from the marriage, Roger and Jean-Yves, before moving the family to Whitecourt, AB. Together Réjean and Margaret owned and operated Gagnon and Sons Logging for many years. When the physical toll of operating equipment got to be too much, he made the bold move of becoming a successful pizza restauranteur. In retirement, he and Margaret spent several summers at their lake lot in Faust, AB where they loved to go fishing on their pontoon boat and enjoying countless campfires.
Reg’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife (Minou) and family as well as watching his grandchildren grow up. He loved fishing, joking around, playing card games and cheering for his Montreal Canadiens. Reg was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was honoured to be both Grand Knight and a 4th degree Knight. Those who knew him will never forget his infectious smile, playful sense of humour and loving heart.
Réjean will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret of 49 years; daughter, Denise (Richard) Briand; sons, Roger (Amber) Gagnon and Jean-Yves (Shanna) Gagnon; his nine grandchildren, Arielle, Stephane, Mekayla, Logan, Liam, Tyce, Dylan, Koen and Kylie; as well as his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. He was predeceased by his parents Aurele and Alice Gagnon.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at the Edson Continuing Care Center for their care and support.
The family would also like to thank the Edson Funeral Home for helping us through this difficult process.
*A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph Parish, 5538 Mink Creek Road, Whitecourt, AB, on April 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM *
