Joe passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 at the Hinton Continuing Care Centre where he had called home for over 13 years. He was born in Calgary, AB to Raymond & Jean Carling.
Joe grew up in Calgary and later moved to Hinton to work at North Western Pulp & Power in 1975. He loved his job at the mill and was proud of the hard worker he was, even with his MS it didn’t let him slow him down. Eventually his MS progressed and he was forced to go off work on disability. He loved to camp and fish and spent many weekends enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends. He also had a love for all kinds of music and spent many hours when he was able recording his much loved music. He was known to rock to Elvis a time or two. He had an infectious laugh, he loved to joke and tease and he had a smile that would light up a room. His family was his greatest achievement in life and gave him so much joy. When his grandchildren came through the door his eyes lit up. He looked forward to his weekly bible studies with his much loved friend Wayne and they both continued to grow in their faith. We are at peace that he is free of pain and in the arms of his loving father.
Joe is survived by his loving and faithful wife Marilyn of 43 years, his loving children son Dustin (Jen) grandchildren Alyssa, Addison, Harrison, Harper; son Adam (Jenna); his mother Jean; brothers, Jim (Wendy), Dave (Heather), Ray, Jeff and sister Echo Giles, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his father Raymond, father-in-law Alvin MacKay and brother-in-law Brian MacKay.
