Josefina (Josie) Steen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josefina (Josie) Steen.  She left us after reaching 92 years of age on February 26, 2025, in Medicine Hat, AB.  Josie was born January 8, 1933, in San Andres Tuxtla, Veracruz, Mexico.  She came from a large family.  

She was predeceased by her dear husband Pieter U. M. Steen and her son David P. Steen of Hinton, AB.

Josie is survived by her three children:  ELVIA, daughter Hannah;  GEORGE, daughter Luisa; son Samuel & Emily, with Rowan, Willow; SILVIA & Ian with son Nathan & Michelle, Pallas, Naia; daughter Nadine & Brendan, Cruz.

She had a strong faith in God and was active in her church for many years.  

Josie was a mother, housewife and small business owner during her lifetime.

After suffering a stroke, she still had a strong faith and remained positive.  Her daughter Elvia helped to move her to Medicine Hat where they could be closer.

There was a small graveside service in Hinton, AB., where she was laid to rest beside her husband Pieter, on March 5, 2025.  

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering arranged in Hinton, AB., for a late May or early June date.

Our mother touched many lives when she was with us.  We know that she is at peace but will still miss her.
