John Ross Obituary

The family of Rudolph Ross wish to announce that he passed away peacefully in the presence of his children, on December 29, 2022, at the age of 91, in the Hinton Continuing Care Centre.

Rudolph was born on January 8, 1931, in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, to William and Ida Ross. He was raised on an eleven-acre farm on the west end of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, along with one brother and nine sisters. He grew up in a proud Metis household with traditional Metis culture and traditions. Rudolph was one of a handful of people who was fluent in Michif (Metis language). He went to St. Paul’s School in Prince Albert, where he was taught by nuns, who, in his words, were very strict, but respected. Rudolph was brought up by devout Catholic parents and remained true to his faith his entire life. He was a practicing Catholic who served as an adult server at Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church for many years.

Starting in 1951, Rudolph served overseas as a member of the Regina Rifles in continental Europe. He received four medals for his service overseas, including one for his work with NATO in Germany.

He married Carol Seymour on May 28, 1954. From this union came four sons and two daughters. Rudolph, Carol, and family lived in Prince Albert until 1969. He never forgot his connections to Prince Albert throughout his lifetime and went back to visit friends and family frequently, and always stayed in touch. The family lived in Saskatoon from 1969 to 1972, moving to Hinton, where he resided the rest of his life.

He was first and foremost a family man who loved his family unconditionally all his life. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and most recently a proud Great-Great-Grandfather. He was a big-hearted man who was always generous, and his door was always open. He passed these qualities on to his family. He never took himself so seriously that he couldn’t laugh at himself. Rudolph was a true inspiration to us all. He will be forever loved and will always be missed.

Left to cherish Rudolph’s memory are his children, Glenn (Lorrie) Ross, Alden (Holly) Ross, Shelley (Rick) Appel, Colleen (Raymond) Ludwig, David (Teresa) Ross, Darren Ross, sister Adeline (Karl) Varga, special nephew Keith (Carol) Ross, and his precious dog, Mickey. He will also be greatly missed by his 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Carol, his parents, William and Ida Ross, in-laws George and Ida Fidler, one brother and eight sisters.

A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 11:00 am, also at Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church.

Donations in Rudolph’s memory can be made to the Hinton Continuing Care Resident Family Council,
