Johanna Friedricke Schaerer (ne: Schlitter), passed away peacefully during the evening of January 8th, 2022. Johanna is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Hans, and sons Thomas, Detlef and Alex with wife Kim and their daughters Logan & Emma.
Johanna was born in Oppelsbohm, Germany, on March 10th, 1934, to Johann Schlitter and his wife Friedricke (ne: Jung) and was one of (14) children. Her childhood home was filled with laughter and love.
Immigrating to Canada in 1961, Johanna and Hans, her husband of over 60 years, settled down in Edson, Alberta to create their life together, and eventually to raise their sons. Mom sought to bring the same childhood experiences to her sons that she had as a child, a home filled with laughter, love and really loud music (especially early on Saturday mornings).
Mom had a great love of gardening and a greener thumb would be hard pressed to find. Whether it was the enormous vegetable garden or her many beloved roses & flowering plants of all types, all flourished with Mom’s magical touch.
Mom was also a great cook, and whether main courses or desserts, her meals were enjoyed by all who gathered at the family dining room table.
Mom will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched and that had the opportunity to meet, speak and spend any amount of time with her.
Our family would also like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the Edson Long Term Care Facility (Aspen Home) and Dr. Robinson, for taking such good care of Mom.
Mom is with the angels now, soaring high with arms spread wide, her spirit now free from its worldly constraints. She is singing loudly, laughing and getting reacquainted with loved ones that had passed before, that are there to greet her and welcome her home.
“Bis wir uns wiedersehen Mama”
