Jeannette Wallace Obituary

It is with great sadness, the family of Jeannette Marie Wallace announce her passing on May 6th, 2022. Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in the Hinton Hospital. It was unexpectedly quick, but thankfully she was surrounded by loved ones in her last days.

Mom was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan on August 30, 1933, to Noel and Emma Thibodeau and grew up on the farm with her brothers Wilfred, Donald and Dennis. She always remembered the good times with all the kids sleeping under an enormous feather comforter looking at the stars through the holes in the roof and riding in the cutter to and from school in town. The farm chores were many, but the sense of family and community were what made home special. Mom always spoke of her brother Dennis as the entertainer who loved telling jokes and playing his guitar. It devastated her when he passed away young due to a heart issue.

Jeannette Thibodeau and Donald Wallace were married and had two sons, Kevin and Trevor Wallace. Everything Mom did was for the family, whether it was driving us to school sports, shuttling us to the pool all summer long, or feeding all the friends who magically appeared at mealtime. She especially enjoyed our summer vacations visiting family in Saskatchewan and hauling us kids to see our grandparents, uncles/aunts and cousins every summer.

Moms career life was as an accountant, and she worked for and with many wonderful people during her time in Hinton. She retired in November of 2004 after 25 years and missed the social aspect of her job for quite a while. However, retirement did allow her time to become more involved in the Catholic Women’s League as well as volunteering at the Share Shop. During these days it was hard for us to pin her down for a visit as she was always on the go. In truth, it made us happy that she was invested in things that interested her and surrounded by coffee-friends whose company she so enjoyed.

Mom’s grandkids and great grandkids provided a huge well of happiness she drew on for strength. She loved to hear all the goings-on and what new things they had accomplished or mischief they were causing. In Mom’s later years it became difficult to get out, so she kept in touch via social media, texts and phone calls. Always anxious to receive new pictures and hear our adventure stories.

Jeannette is survived by her sons Kevin (Jane) of Hinton AB and Trevor (Kelsi) of Brule AB. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Jeannette is predeceased by her Father Noel (1964), Mother Emma (1997), Brothers Dennis (1964), Wilfred (1997), and Donald (2018), her Husband Don (1999) and Great grandson Nevis (2019).

Rest in peace Mom, you will live on in our memories and we miss you dearly.

Thank you to Dr. Beamish, the dedicated nurses at Hinton General Hospital, and staff at Pine Valley Lodge for the care and compassion Mom received over the years.

Interment will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hinton with the immediate family in attendance.
