It is with love and great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mom (Granny), Jean Semeniuk on March 19, 2022 at the age of 90 years.
Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughters Sheryl (Chuck), Connie, Janice and Susan (Robert), her grandchildren Kurtis, Amy, Jillian, Murray (Melanie), Leif, Garret and Michael, great grandchildren Tristan, Jace, Lisa-May, Zoey and Damian.
Jean was born in Edmonton, Alberta and later moved to Jasper Alberta with her mom and dad, Marguerite and George MacPherson. The family eventually moved to Edson where Jean attended High School. It was during this time that she met the love of her life Ted Semeniuk. They married on Oct 8, 1949.
Jean was very involved in life and community in Edson. She was very active with the CWL (Catholic Women’s League) and Kinette Club serving as president. She loved curling, attending several bonspiels in the area and even sometimes travelling as far as Hinton to participate in a bonspiel. She made several lifetime friends during her time in Edson.
In 1966 Jean and Ted moved to Edmonton to provide better opportunities for their family. Nearly every Friday they travelled to Edson or Bear Lake to enjoy the property they had there. Jean loved Bear Lake and many happy days were spent there with family and friends creating fond memories. Jean made everyone feel welcome whether it was at Bear Lake or their home in Edmonton. Family can all remember Mom saying FHB (before acronyms were popular) to all of us before meal times which meant “family hold back” as company came first - there were several times that this was done.
Jean enjoyed family and friend’s company. She looked after everyone who came into her life.
Jean shared her wisdom and counsel in a very quiet and unassuming way. We could all count on her love and support and she expected nothing in return.
She also enjoyed several hobbies, she was a great knitter and quilter. She had to give these up in later years, but continued to give advice and pass her knowledge along to all.
Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Ted in March 2020, her son Douglas in January 1996 and her grandson-in-law Rick Ottoson in February 2022.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the
Sacred Heart Parish, 4803 6 Avenue Edson Alberta.
Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow the service.
