Jean-Pierre Massez, also known by “John” to many who knew him, passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday June 03, 2025, in Niton Junction, Alberta.
Jean-Pierre was born on May 25, 1949, in Joigny, France, to Philippine Marie Elisabeth and Paul Theodoor Gislain Massez. He lived an adventurous life with his sister Chantelle in their childhood years. The family moved to Canada when Jean-Pierre and Chantelle were young children, eventually settling in Carrot Creek, Alberta, where he grew up. Later, he was married and accepted an opportunity to move to Scotland where he worked on the offshore drilling rigs and he also travelled to Greece. Over the years he eagerly told many stories about those exciting days. While in Scotland, his first child, a daughter, was born. Soon after, he moved back to Canada and settled on a little acreage near Lacombe where his second child, a son, was born. Jean-Pierre was passionate about gardening and each year raising a beef or two for his family. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, wine making and had a knack for engineering and problem solving, he was incredibly creative when it came to designing and fabricating almost anything he needed. Throughout his career, Jean-Pierre earned numerous safety awards, he was a hard worker and took great pride in his career. Later in life Jean-Pierre re-settled in Niton Junction, Alberta, where he was surrounded by many good friends whom he truly cherished. He mastered canning and was always busy preserving produce from his garden that he spent much of his time nurturing. John had quite the sense of humor and always loved to talk about his little ‘Missy-Fancy’, a beloved little min-pin he would spend much of his time with.
Jean-Pierre is survived by his sister Chantelle, daughter Michelle (Christopher), son Andre’ (Larissa), grandchildren Gauge, Avery, Jensen and Elena, niece Nicole, nephew Trent (Angela), great nephews Brady and Deyman and great niece Frankie (Jake), and many friends.
