James Johnson Obituary

On Monday, August 12th, 2024, James Claude Johnson, beloved husband of Dale Johnson, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 years at his home in Edson, Alberta. He was born on January 31st, 1954, in Kelowna, BC. Jim was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and will be fiercely missed by his family and friends. Although he left this world suddenly, Jim’s impact on all who knew him will be forever etched in their hearts. He was a quiet soul who loved the simpler pleasures in life and cherished his family above all else.

Jim was always a hard worker, growing up working as a farm and ranch hand around the 70 Mile House area, before starting a job at the sawmill in Chasm, BC. In the late 197Os he began work with Echo Logging, which led to a lifelong career loading logs in both BC and Alberta. Jim was a dedicated, loyal worker and had a well-earned reputation in the logging industry as one of the very best to do the job. JJ, as he was known by the crew, was truly one in a million when it came to loading a logging tuck, no one could do it better and he was well respected because of it. Throughout the more than 40 years he spent with Echo Logging, Jimmy became more than just an employee, he and Dale both were genuinely considered part of the Baker family. He retired from working life in the bush in the spring of 2022. No longer having to put in the very early mornings and long days, he was happy to spend more time with his treasured wife and extended family.

Jim was always a keen outdoorsman and loved getting out with the animals or quadding along a well-worn trail – just spending time in nature and the quiet peacefulness it brings. Jim had a love for flying and was a skilled RC airplane and helicopter pilot. He spent many hours building, rebuilding, and tinkering with his aircraft, and he and Dale took part in many weekend flying events over the years.

Jimmy was a straight shooter who could always be counted on, without judgment and always with honesty. He was a man of integrity and honour, who’s warm smile and sense of humour will live on in cherished memories.

Jim's Celebration of Life will be held on May 17 and 18th, 2025 @ 54311 Range Rd. 161 Edson, A.B.
