It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob Jeffery Lasko, 20 years old, of Edson, Alberta, on December 22nd, 2024.
Jacob came into this world 3 months early weighing 1 lb 9 oz, on June 16, 2004, to his loving parents Jeffery Lasko and Amanda Homme. Jacob spent the first 3 months in the hospital, coming home only to return for a surgery due to bowel complications. Already showing his fighting spirit, he recovered and had a healthy childhood other then some weakness and muscle strength issues, which was diagnosed as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, at the age of 7.5 years old. Jacob refused to let any challenge or difficulty get him down. He faced life with an unbelievable strength and a glowing positivity that everyone who met him could see. Jacob defied the odds of his disease and was still walking at the age of 20.
Jacob was predeceased by his mother Amanda Homme who passed away 3 months before his 7th birthday; as well as his loving grandparents Joe and Shirley Lasko.
Jacob leaves behind his father Jeff Lasko; his Aunt and Uncle Judy and Kurt Boehm; his grandparents Darlene and Pat Burton; many other Uncles, Aunts, cousins and friends.
Jacob loved his dog Bailey, playing video games, YouTube, camping, fishing, swimming, spending time with family and his two best friends since childhood, Justin and Jasper. Jacob put many miles on his custom bike which he helped to build with his dad. Jacob enjoyed working with his dad and the crew at Riderz, where he meticulously assembled parts. He was very creative and liked to build things. He also had an adventurous side to him and wasn't afraid to try new things.
Jacob and his dad Jeff shared an unbreakable love and bond that was at a level it could not be described through words. Jacob also had a very special relationship with his Aunty Judy and Uncle Kurt. Jacob brought so much joy, love and light into our lives, and we will treasure our memories with him forever. Jacob was loved beyond words and will be greatly missed by many.
A celebration of Jacob's life will be held in the summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
