Irvin was born in Edmonton on April 29, 1939 to Edward and Olivina Thurner. He grew up in the Lovett and Foothills in the Coal Branch. The family moved into the Edson area, where he attended the Red Brick School.
In 1965, he moved to Port Coquitlam to work at Ocean Cement. It was there he met his future wife Rosalind Styles in 1968.
Irvin and Rosalind were married on December 13, 1971 in a simple ceremony on a stormy day.
Their daughter Kimberly was born on July 25, 1973 in New Westminster.
In November 1975, Irvin and Rosalind moved their young family back to the family homestead just outside of Edson.
In September 3, 1976 their son Kevin was born.
Irvin lived the rest of his years in Edson on the family homestead, working various jobs. He was truly a jack of all trades.
Irvin was predeceased by his father, Edward, in 1982, brother Ivan in 2004, mother, Olivina, in 2006, and brother William in 2015.
Irvin is survived by his wife Rosalind, daughter Kimberly, son Kevin and his wife Trish and grandchildren Artemis and Fenton, as well as by his brother Henry and children of his heart Melanie and Megan Spreen. Megan was his first grandchild.
