Helen "Elsie" (Berezowski) Gravel

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Elsie Gravel. Mom passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2022, at 3:20 pm surrounded by her family at the Hinton General Hospital.

Elsie (Helen) was born in Lamont, Alberta on January 14, 1928, to Nicholas and Josephine Berezowski.

Elsie married Alfred Gravel on August 22, 1955, and had 4 children: Dale, Darlene, Darryl and Deanne.

Mom was 94 and lived life to the fullest only slowing down in the last few years due to kidney failure.

Elsie loved her children and grandchildren and loved nothing more than having one of them come for a visit. She was a huge Blue Jays fan and loved to watch curling too-she always had some armchair advice when they didn’t make the shot she wanted them to.

Elsie ran the Hinton Curling Rink Concession for many years, as well as catered many bonspiels and weddings.  She was well known for her delicious meals, especially her cabbage rolls.

Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her children: son Dale Gravel, daughter Darlene Grenier (Gilles), Darryl Gravel (Dawn), Deanne Bye (Michael) as well as her grandchildren: Byron, Boyd, Jenessa, Alexa, Aaron, Brandon, Ashlei, Taylor, Casidy, Alex, many great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

She will be fondly remembered by her sister and partner in crime, Joyce Halverson of Prince George, BC and many, many nieces, nephews and numerous friends that she made throughout the years.

Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband, Alfred, in 2010 and her beloved dog, Molly.

Viewing will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 16, 2022, and a Mass of Christian burial will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church. Lunch to follow in the church downstairs.

The family would like to thank Dr. Buhiire and nurses Cathryn, Yvette, Maureen, Jackie and Kristy for their amazing care, kindness and compassion to mom and the family during this most difficult time.
