Helen Chwyl Obituary

It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Helen (Predka) Chwyl announces her passing on November 2, 2025, in Edson, Alberta at the age of 90.

Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Chwyl (2010).  She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Carol Jakubow (Frank); her children Cheryl Anderson (Larry), Dale Chwyl, John Chwyl (Tim Grahn), Jim Chwyl, and Mona Alexander (Bruce); as well as her eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who all brought her tremendous pride and joy. Also remembered by her sister-in-law, Liz Orydzuk and her brother-in-law, Edward (Mary) Chwyl.  She is fondly remembered by the “special” people in her life, Suzanne (Braden) Robinson, Pat and Rick McKinlay and Sheri Chwyl.

Helen was a loving woman whose heart and home were always open. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone in need, you were welcomed without hesitation and treated like one of her own. She was known for her hospitality, generous spirit and her ability to make everyone feel at home. Her kitchen was always busy, and no one ever left hungry. Her apple pie was legendary, a sweet reflection of the love she poured into everything she did.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cooking, baking, gardening, curling and beading her diamond art. Helen had a creative spirit, a sharp wit and a warm, caring soul that touched everyone who knew her. Her quick humor and playful sass brought laughter to many and when it came to curling, everyone knew not to argue — GMa was always right.

Above all, Helen will be remembered for her caring heart, welcoming nature and deep love for family and friends. Her legacy of love, laughter and togetherness will live on through her family and all the lives she brightened. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with gratitude for the warmth she shared and the home she created for so many.

The Family would like to THANK ALL of the staff and Home Care Providers at Parkland Lodge, the Edson Healthcare Centre medical staff and the Palliative Care teams, who were always there for Mom and everyday made sure she was comfortable and well cared for! We are all grateful for their constant support and incredible kindness!

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Evergreen Foundation; specific to the Parkland Lodge, designated to the Recreation Department. One of Mom’s greatest joys was taking part in the activities and seeing the beautiful seasonal decorations at the Lodge!

A Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Edson on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:30 AM with a luncheon to follow at the Edson Senior Pioneer Cabin
