Maureen passed away on September 19, 2022, in Hinton, Alberta, at 79 years of age. Maureen was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, by her parents, Ethel and Erol Gahan. After attending Victoria Composite High School, she met Whit and, in 1963, they were married. That same year, Whit had the opportunity to move to Hinton to work at Northwest Pulp and Power, and Maureen made a cozy home on Erith Drive. She raised five children and found plenty of good friends in her many endeavours, including the Entrance Square Dance Club, Hinton Happy Hose Hookers, Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies, and working at Homestead Jewelry. She dearly loved children, and later in life, most of her time was spent spoiling her many beloved grandchildren.
Maureen is survived by her children: Patti (Stephen), Sean (Bree), Glen (Tanya), Rory (Neil), and Rob (Kim); her grandchildren: Mathew, Kelli, Alex, Kaitlyn, Emily, Taryn, Tristan, Kira, Alex, and Adam; and her brother Denis (Gail).
A memorial service celebrating Maureen’s life will be held on Monday, September 26th, 2022, at 1:00 pm at The Hinton Legion.
As an expression of sympathy, and in loving memory of Maureen, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories or The Hinton Health Care Foundation.
Maureen’s Irish heritage made her the life of every party. Her humour and love for life will be missed by all.
