Harvey Hunt Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Harvey Hunt on January 12, 2021 at the age of 78. Harvey conquered cancer twice and passed peacefully after a hard-fought battle against Covid.  Heaven welcomed an amazing husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 50 years Valerie; daughters Dana (Grant) Graham and Pam (Mark) Lenihan; grandchildren Kayla Graves, Justin (Brandy), Jordan, and Breccan Lenihan. He is also survived by his sisters Iva, Sharon, Gloria, Phyllis, and their families.  He also leaves behind his in-laws Bob, Willy, Larry, Liz, Gerry, Doug, and their families, as well as a large extended family and many close friends. Harvey was also a father to many foster children.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents Walter and Mary (nee Hill) and siblings Arthur, Lloyd, Audrey, and Lois.

Harvey was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. He grew up in Saskatchewan and worked for the Wheat Pool.   He married the love of his life Valerie in 1970 and they moved to Hinton Alberta where he began his 33-year career working for the Town of Hinton. Harvey loved farming and was drawn back to Saskatchewan every fall to help with the harvest. For over 40 years Harvey and Val were dedicated foster parents and they welcomed many children into their home. Harvey retired in 2003, giving him time to enjoy the things he loved the most: family, camping, fishing, woodworking, playing crib and creating in the kitchen. He made the best pies around, especially his “made from scratch” pumpkin pies.

Harvey was active within the community of Hinton and frequently volunteered with the Lions Club, Foster Parents Association, Resident Care Foundation, Pine Valley Lodge and anywhere else he could lend a hand, flip a burger or spin a cone of cotton candy.

Harvey was known by all for his genuine and contagious laugh and cheerful nature.  He will be lovingly remembered through treasured memories and missed beyond measure.

With the current Covid restrictions in place a private family service will occur. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Harvey’s life at a later date.
