Grace Vanderveen, born February 2,1937 in Britsum, Friesland, The Netherlands, passed away on January 30, 2026, in Hinton, Alberta, Canada.
Grace was born in the Village of Britsum in the Netherlands, the third of twelve children to Jack and Lorraine Bil. She immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her parents and siblings, and lived in the Edson Area until June of 2025, when she moved to The Pine Valley Lodge in Hinton, where she went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 30, 2026. She passed away peacefully.
Grace was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John Vanderveen, in September of 2024, she was also predeceased by her daughter Marilyn Shuflada and son-in-law Larry Derkson, her parents and six of her siblings, and four of her siblings’ spouses.
Grace is survived by her children Rick (Bonnie) Vanderveen, Linda (Shawn) Malony, Jim (Sue) Vanderveen, Terry (Lolita) Shuflada, John (Angela) Vanderveen, Judie (Joe) Vanderveen.
Also surviving are her 13 grandchildren Megan Vanderveen, Laura (Danny) Kulyk, Dana (David) Martinez, Jaqulyn (Henry) Benard, Matthew (Amy) Vanderveen, Nick (Savannah) Vanderveen, Josh, Brett, Stephan, Ben (Hailey) Shuflada, Joyce (Tyler) Vanderveen, Chelsea (Adam) Emms; her great grandchildren, Colton, Hudson, Alizabeth, William, Everliegh, Quinn, Chidi, Liam, Jaxson, Brock, Amara, Adaeze, Leo, Joey, Jaxson, Aiden, Mia, Ava, Ray, Kai and Kaivy; Grace’s surviving siblings Sally (Jake) Renkama, Leo (Ann) Bil, Harry (Janet) Bil, Gary (Joan) Bil, and Ann Bil, aa well as sisters-in-law Margreat Bil and Pam Bil, special friends Randy and Katie Kopp.
Grace is also survived by 3 sisters of her husband John and 2 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law.
A Funeral Service for Grace will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Edson Branch 51 on Saturday, February 7,2026, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Daniel Peters of the Gateway Community Church in Hinton officiating.
