Garry passed away peacefully on April 7, 2022, with his son Greg and daughter Christine at his side. He was 89 years old.
Garry was born in Kitchener Waterloo Ontario to George and Helene Wiebe.
He was predeceased by his loving wife and best friend of 67 years, Eleanor (2021), his father George in 1959, his mother Helen in 1971 and his only sibling Helena Maria in 2021.
Garry is survived by his children, Bob from Edson, Glen (Rose) from Dollard Sask, Greg (Tammy) from Edson and only daughter Christine from Edson; Grandchildren, Darren, Steven, Roger (Glen & Rose), Jason, Graden, Garon (Greg & Tammy), Amanda, Robert, Jodi-Lyn, Emma (Christine), as well as numerous great grandchildren.
In Garry’s early years he worked as a truck driver locally in Winnipeg and then went on to long distance hauling through eastern Canada and the USA. In 1974 Garry and his family made the trek west to Alberta. Garry started his mining career at G.C.O.S in Fort McMurray, then later moved to Edson in 1978 where he began working for Luscar Stereo (1977) Ltd., where he retired in 1998. He was very well respected for his hard work and great work ethic.
Garry and Eleanor enjoyed many years on their hobby farm just east of Edson. He spent many days off out in the back 40 cutting trees for heat during the winter months. He was always busy working to improve their home, building something, landscaping…. never a dull moment for him. He enjoyed horseback riding and teaching his eldest granddaughter Amanda to ride. Amanda has fond memories of her Grandpa on the farm, she was always his tag along in his shop and loved spending her time with him.
They sold the farm and moved to Edson in 2004. Garry always enjoyed working with his hands and doing wood crafts. In their basement he set up a woodwork shop like no other. He was extremely gifted and made many pieces of art to live on in his memory.
In his last years, Garry lived for his visits with his kids. It is what kept him going. He loved his long chats about mining, cars, fixing vehicles, quad trips with his boys and enjoyed his treats and coffee with his daughter.
Rest in peace Dad, we love you and miss you dearly.
