Franz Marchewka Obituary

Franz (Frank) Marchewka was born February 12 ,1936, in Kerkrade, Holland.
He passed away peacefully at the age of 89, with his family by his side, on April10 ,2025, in the Edson Hospital.
Frank met the love of his life Gisela (Sabina) Slotta in 1958, and they were married in Gladbeck, Germany, in 1962. They soon welcomed a daughter, Sonja, in 1962 and then a son, Daniel, in 1966.
Frank worked in the coal mines in Germany and when they started closing, Frank decided to move the family. It was a toss up between Australia and Canada and because Gisela didn’t like snakes, Canada it was! Frank and family started their journey by ship May 29, 1967, to Montreal and then by train to settle in Edson, Alberta.
Frank and Gisela expanded their family with one more son, Frank Jr., in 1972.
One of Franks first jobs was working at the Mid-Town Bakery, where he learned to make doughnuts, which he enjoyed making for family and friends. He also worked on the oil rigs, CN Railway, Alberta Transportation, and closer to retirement for the Town of Edson at the Cemetery. A job he took great pride in!
Frank and Gisela lived most of their lives in Wolf Creek, surrounded by wonderful neighbors, and made many lifelong friends.
Frank loved to travel to Mexico, Disneyland, Las Vegas, and trips back to Germany to visit family. And of course, the occasional casino run!
In 2012 Frank lost his beloved wife of 49 years, after she battled PSP. Sonja and Dan decided to move Frank closer to them, where he lived until his passing.
Frank is survived by his children, Sonja (Randy) Scott, Dan (Tammy) Marchewka and Frank Jr. (Nola) Marchewka, grandchildren: Tara (Clayton) Davidson, Jason (Rachel) Scott, Amanda (Ryan) Palkun, Rhys and Tyrus Marchewka;
great grandchildren: Braeden Davidson, Rylen Davidson, Sawyer Scott, Leah Scott, Teilor Poirier, Jaedin Poirier, and Alexis Palkun. He was predeceased by Justin Chouinard.
At the request of Frank, no Service will be held.
The families would like to thank Dr. Kruger and Dr. Saby and the nurses and staff at the Edson Hospital for the amazing care they gave to Frank.
