Florence Dorothy (Angell) Haggart

Florence was born in Archerwill, Saskatchewan, on a small homestead farm, the second oldest of 7 children. She later attended school in Rose Valley, Sask. which was the home base for the family.

In 1948 she came to Edmonton to marry James Haggart and then went to live on his farm 1.5 miles north of MacKay, Alberta, on the Lobstick River. They had 3 children: Glenn (1949), Donald (1952) and Alva (1956). After James died on January 9, 1972. Florence remained on the farm with Donald and his family, where she continued to live in their original house. In 2017, she moved to Pembina Village seniors' community in Evansburg and resided there until her death. She was very well cared for and loved by the staff.

Florence spent much of her time making quilts for her family and knitting many, many pairs of mittens and socks. At Christmas time, she always had to make a batch of lefsa. Grandma loved driving fast on her snowmobile or quad, and later, four-wheeling on her scooter. She couldn't resist a good campfire and wiener roast with her grand and great-grandchildren. Florence also enjoyed travelling, including bus tour trips. Her grandchildren, children, extended family, neighbours, and friends would often gather around her kitchen table, where she welcomed them with tea and her famous gingersnap cookies.

A proud member of the Wildwood Legion Auxiliary and MacKay seniors' club, Florence volunteered many hours and donated her knitting and quilts to community fundraisers. She was also an active member and volunteer at various churches including the Niton United Church and Cowboy Church.

Grandma was predeceased by her husband James, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Florence is remembered lovingly by her sister Alverna; her children Glenn (Lois), Donald (Nancy), Alva (Bruce); her grandchildren David (Roxanne), Jason (Laurie), Melissa (Warren), Marsha, Sean (Alana), Jill (Ed), Katie (Darren), Amber (Mark), Chad (Laura), James (Yana), and her great-grandchildren Dawson, Jorge, Vanessa, Luke, Erica, Sydney, Bailey, Ryley, Madison, Eddy, Maple, Lavender, Wynter, Layla, Danica, Parker, Presley, Hailey, Karissa, Amina, and many other family members and friends.

A funeral Service will be held at the MacKay Community Hall on June 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM with interment to follow at the Leaman Cemetery.
