Ewald Eugene Arndt, a man who believed everything had a place and everything belonged in it, passed away in Edson, Alberta, on April 1st, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born in Felicjanowie, Poland, to Rudolf and Martha Arndt. Ewald’s journey took him from Poland through East and West Germany before he settled in Alberta. Over the years, he called Rosevear, Peers, Fulham, Wildwood, Edson and Yellowhead County home.
A hard worker, Ewald dedicated 24 years to CN Rail before eventually retiring from the Luscar Sterco Mine.
Ewald was a man of many nicknames—Star Gazer, Silly Bunny, Ol’ Grouch, Unc, and Crout—reflecting a personality that was as disciplined as it was humorous.
He was famous for his "lint-picking" standards and his early automotive habits; he changed vehicles as often as socks until his growing family required more stability.
While he loved woodworking, fishing, and camping, his brief stints with motorcycles and skidoos all ended in crashes, leading to a lifelong "never again" policy. He also held a special place in his heart for his favorite companions, his German Shepherds.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Diane Eileen (Wells) Arndt.
His legacy lives on through his children: Bruce (Stacy), David (Laurie Michaelchuk), Dianna (Jay Manning) Arndt and Brenda (Chris) Paulson.
He was a proud grandfather to Brett, Chance (Megan), Alesha (Jimmy), Jordan, Kaelen, Eric, and Bliss, and a great-grandfather to Willow, Oaklen, Nessa, and Romie.
He is also survived by his siblings Walter, Luie (Jane), and Rita (Gary) Stinert, along with a large circle of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, "out-laws," and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Rudolf and Martha and his siblings Rudolf, Alfred, Edwin, and Marie.
Ewald was, above all, a family-oriented man—an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who will be truly missed.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
