Elsie Ernestine (Ditterich) Riemens

Elsie Ernestine Riemens passed away at the age of 87 in Edson, Alberta, on December 21, 2024, at the Edson Healthcare Center.

She was born on March 31,1937, in Edson, Alberta, to William and Katherine Ditterich and sister Kathleen Giedl.

Elsie grew up on a farm in the Pinedale area. Elsie married Marinus (Morris) Riemens in 1958 and together they moved to their farm where they stayed for almost 60 years, also in the Pinedale area. They had two children, Janette (Chris Tiedemann) in 1959 and Daniel (Cindy) Riemens in 1963.  

They sold the farm in 2006 and moved to a house in Edson for a short time and then into a Condo.  Mom moved into Parkland lodge in July of 2021 where she resided for about 3 years before her death.

Elsie spent her farm life gardening, crafting and enjoying getting together with neighbours and friends.  She was living her best life at the Parkland Lodge where her calendar seemed to always be filled with activities, even enjoying a Christmas Senior Supper just hours before admitted to hospital.

Elsie was survived by daughter Janette and husband Chris, son Daniel and wife Cindy, grandchildren Jacqueline Biron, Kristen Tiedemann and Ricu (Richelle) Riemens.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Katherine Ditterich, Sister Kathleen Giedl, brother-in-law John Giedl, aunt Hilda Mona, uncle Charles Mona and cousins Angel and Ray Kitchen.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Pioneer Cabin in Edson, Alberta, at 1 pm on January 4, 2024, followed by lunch.

The Interment will be held prior and Visitation for family and close friends will be held Friday evening at 7 pm at Foothills Memorial Chapel.
