It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eileen Maxwell announces her passing on August 30, 2025, in Edson, Alberta, at the age of 90 years.
Eileen was born in Edson and in 1937 moved with her family to the Rosevear area, where she completed her schooling through Grade 8. At the age of 14, she returned to Edson, where she began working at the Edson Hospital. It was during these early years that she met Don and after nearly two years of courting, they were married in Edmonton in 1953; beginning a loving partnership and the start of a family that would bring them great joy for many years.
A dedicated volunteer and vibrant member of the community, Eileen gave her time and energy generously. She enjoyed many hobbies and was especially fond of curling, golfing, painting and playing cards. She had a deep love for animals and the outdoors and treasured time spent camping, picking blueberries and traveling; with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart.
Eileen’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children Barb (Mitch), David, Chrissy, and Karen (Brian); her grandchildren Shaun (Janet), Craig (Amanda), Liz (Jay), Kyle (Ellie), Brett, Sam (Brenna), Kelsey (Kyle); and her great-grandchildren Alexis, Jewel, Faith, Evan, Bella, Bear, Ben, MacKenzie, Logan, Micah and Wylder. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia, Sharon, Dorothy, and Kathy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Don, infant son Bruce, her parents Alfred and Mary (Molly), brothers Terry and Robert and sister Ruth.
A Celebration of Life and fellowship will be held on September 5, 2025 at 1:00 PM, at the Pioneer Cabin (4836 - 7th Avenue, Edson, Alberta). Cremation has taken place and final resting place will be at the Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Pioneer Cabin, the Edson Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the Edson Healthcare Centre. With their guidance, support and compassion, Eileen was able to spend her final days surrounded by familiar faces tending to her needs. A special thank you is also extended to the staff of Parkland Lodge for the kindness and care they provided over the last year.
Eileen’s warmth, laughter and love will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
