Duane Hanrahan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Duane Douglas (Doug) Hanrahan on September 26, 2022, at the age of 72. Doug will be deeply missed by us all and is survived by his loving wife Brenda of 52 years, his son Jeff & Jackie Hanrahan, grandchildren Kieran, Sydney and Kaiden, son Paul & Rebecca Hanrahan, grandchildren Sarah and Emerson and daughter Melanie and Casey Callihoo, grandchildren Logan and Emma, his brothers Terry Hanrahan, Don, Morris, Colin and Larry Rumball and Sisters Evelyn Williams and Fay Beart, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Doug was born at home in Haddock, Alberta on January 10, 1950. He was welcomed into a loving home with seven brothers and five sisters and raised by his loving and deeply respected mother Connie Rumball. At the age of sixteen he left home to seek employment and start building a life for himself. Early on Doug worked a variety of jobs in meat processing in Dawson Creek, BC which eventually led Doug to Edmonton where he became a Butcher at Safeway. Doug and Brenda (Nimeck) met in Edmonton on a blind date in July of 1968 which led to marriage July 3, 1970. Doug and Brenda moved back to the Haddock area during the summer of 1973 to raise their children Jeff, Paul and Melanie. Once back home Doug spent most of his career constructing Oil & Gas facilities across Western Canada working his way up from a labourer to a company consultant to finish out his working career. In his time away from work Doug and Brenda spent any spare time they had building their home and developing the yard and garden. Doug was a creative man that was always fixing and building items in his garage. Doug was always willing to help in the community and was the go-to person when you needed some guidance to start or finish a project. During his retirement Doug and Brenda enjoyed travelling, camping, gardening, sausage making, watching the Blue Jays and Oilers and spending time with family & friends.

Doug loved the time with his Grandchildren and enjoyed the special moments that he would spend with them bonding over their favorite activities or just goofing around.

Dad, we hope there is a workshop for you to continue building and tinkering.

In lieu of other tributes, donations if desired may be made to the Fulham Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 17, Peers, AB TOE 1WO.
