It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas Fredrick Reiter of Edson, Alberta at the age of 65, on Saturday March 21, 2026. He spent his final moments at home, held in the loving arms of his beloved wife, surrounded by the warmth and love that defined his life.
Doug was born February 13, 1961 and was raised in Unity, Saskatchewan by his parents George and Hilda Reiter along with siblings Dale, Doreen, Darlene, Lynn and Brent. He later met Lori at the tender age of 18 and on February 14, 1981 they began their journey in marriage together for the next 45 years.
Through out the years Doug’s dedication to provide for his family powered his passion to ride the steel horse of 18 wheels from dusk till dawn through dusty trails, deep valleys and windy hills. He also spent many years working in his father’s meat shop which provided him the knowledge and power to follow his own creative ingenuity to create his very own brand of beef jerky and meat products. Doug thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and had a remarkable talent for woodworking and took great pride in creating things with his hands.
Doug’s humour was very contagious and he had a big laugh to match his big heart. Making memories with his family was his biggest priority. Nothing meant more to Doug than the time he had to spend with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Lori Reiter, his children Terrence Reiter (Kristy Reiter), Alecia Antonello (Jason Antonello) and Ryan Reiter (Shani Reiter), seven grandchildren Adrianna (Brayden), Jade, Justin, Ava, Riley, Naomi and Sullivan and four great-grandchildren Olivia, Sophia, Atlas and Jazmine.
Predeceased by his parents George and Hilda Reiter and his loving companion, Odie.
In honour of Doug the celebration of life will be held on May 17, 2026 at the Galloway Station Museum from 12:00pm- 5:00pm in Edson, Alberta.
Memorial donations in the memory of Doug can be made to the Heart and Stoke foundation and/or Diabetes Canada.
“Dad, we’ll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace you always gave us. You being there for mom and us through good and bad times no matter what. The memory of you will last in our hearts forever.”
