Douglas Garry GOERTZEN, of Hinton AB, passed away on January 26th, 2023, at the Hinton Hospital after a valiant battle with heart failure. Doug was born and raised in Prince Albert, SK. After a brief time in the Army, he worked in various mines in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia before settling at Cardinal River/Teck Coal Ltd in Hinton. He held many heavy equipment positions over 30+ years there but enjoyed the blasting position most as he shared countless laughs with his best friends. His health forced him into early retirement, but he had no intentions on sitting around idle. He found great pleasure in his skate sharpening shop at the local Rec Centre for many years as it gave him the opportunity to converse with anyone who came to his window, including the children at the daycare.
Doug’s most cherished thing in life was his family. He was predeceased by his companion Lois LeBoeuf, parents Edith/Henry Goertzen, sisters, Nora and Norma. He will be deeply missed by his sister Lorna, ex-wife Grace, sons; Garry Goertzen (Shelley) with grandchildren Brenden and Alex, Art Goertzen with grandchildren Ashley and Kaitlyn and great-grandchildren Jace and Jensen and his daughter Vanessa(Shawn) Ergang with grandchildren Tiana, Kyra and Kaleb, his extended family Tim LeBoeuf and Tanya(Scott) Tymchychyn with their children Ryder and Sawyer along with countless friends and family.
Doug requested a Celebration of Life be held in his honour as opposed to traditional funeral services.
We welcome everyone to join us on Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at the Hinton Community Centre at 2pm.
