Donna Barrass Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, auntie, niece, cousin and dear friend Donna Mae Barrass.  Mom fought many health battles over the last 6 years and had a strength within her that we all marvelled at.  On May 28, 2020 she went home to be with the lord.

Born at home on May 7, 1946 in Carrot Creek, Alberta she loved to sing and play her accordion with her brother Ted for dances starting at the young age of 3.  Together they won the talent search in Ft Assiniboine when they were only 9 and 10 years old! Grandma Fern was their manager and organized for the family band (Uncle Ted, Auntie Anne and Mom) to play at dances earning enough money to pay for a new car for the family, they were so proud they had done that.

They played together their whole life and we will sure miss the wonderful music they blessed us all with. Mom played the organ or accordion for 68 funerals, countless weddings/dances/jams/church gatherings and she looked forward each Tuesday to seeing and playing with her friends at Cowboy Church. She was always tapping a foot, toe, finger or be bopping her head to whatever beat was present. Mom and Dad were married on Feb 28, 1964.  They have had a lifetime of love, laughter and gratitude crammed into 56 years and us kids were the only cause of their grey hairs. Her grandkids were her pride and joy.  Dad and her had a routine to go through and pray for each kid, grandkid, great grandkid in detail each night before bed.  She was always eager to help and support not only family and friends but anyone she saw in need, her kindness was truly her trademark.

She leaves behind precious memories for her loving husband Albert Barrass, sons, Randy Barrass, Marlin (Toni) Barrass, daughter, Bernnie (Darren) Gervais.

Grandsons, Derrick (Kandace) Barrass, Jordan (Cassidy) Barrass, Chance Barrass and Zach Gervais.  Granddaughters, Tessa (Garret) Camps, Lacey Barrass (Damon Eaton), Megan Barrass (Mason Ascheimier), Meicah Gervais, Charmayne Gervais and Cassidy Gervais. Great grandsons Bennett Barrass, Levi Barrass and little Cooper Barrass.  Brothers, Allen (Marlene) Ice, Ted (Linda) Ice and sister Anne Ice. Mom was predeceased by her parents Fern and Joe Ice and her brother Joseph (Happy) Ice.

Just our family alone is well over the limit restrictions in place because of COVID 19 so we will be having a graveside service with Pastor George Stone on Saturday June 6 at 2 pm at Shining Bank Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place (hopefully this summer/fall) when those restrictions have lifted. There will be tons of great music, food and laughter that will rise up to the heavens and embrace mom and the memories we will carry on for many years to come and we sure hope you will join us.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words, virtual hugs, offers of help and messages left, we are truly touched by all the compassion shown.

In lieu of donations to a foundation the family asks that you please keep your eyes open for a need in our communities and if possible fill it to keep moms charitable spirit alive.
