Don passed away on May 22, 2024, in Hinton AB, lovingly surrounded by his family.
He was a wonderful Dad, Grandpa, Great-grandpa and Uncle.
Don was born and raised in Qu’Appelle, Sask. and was the youngest of seven siblings. Because of the hard times in those days, he started working at a young age and throughout his life was always a hard worker and provider for his family. While growing up in Sask., he played hockey and was a natural athlete on the ice. He loved the game!
In 1954, he married his true love Lorraine Nilson and together they had four children.
The family moved to Crowsnest Pass Alberta in 1961, where Don would commence his career in coal mining. His final mining adventure took him and Lorraine to Hinton in 1983 and this is where he would eventually retire.
Our parents always provided a loving, safe and comfortable home. They instilled true morals and values along with providing much love and support to their family. They loved their grandchildren more than anything and were always involved and enthusiastically cheering them on during sports and activities.
Home cooked delicious meals around the table were always a family tradition. There were many special occasions to celebrate and many family gatherings.
Don is survived by his daughter Debbie (Steve) and sons Bill and Dale (Debby). Grandchildren: Matthew (Kate), Michael (Melissa), Kimberly, Marc (Danielle), Brandi, (his little ho-ho) and Bryan (April). Great Grandchildren: Declan, Emmett, Fallon, Llewyn and Adeline.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by Lorraine, his loving wife of 52 years, as well as his son Gary, parents Oscar and Florence Greenwood and all of his siblings.
As per Don’s request, there will be no funeral service.
Our family will cherish our wonderful memories!
Dad, Grandpa, you will hold a special place in our hearts forever and we will have many future laughs over all of your great sense of humour and wit.
We were happy for you to be able to know that the Oilers won game 7 in the playoffs.
Rest in peace Dad, you are now free from pain and old age.
We love you and we will miss you always.
