Dennis Edward Hill

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Edward Hill of Spruce Grove, Alberta on Friday, March 31st at the age of 81 years.

Left to mourn his loss, his loving wife of 59 years, Deanna (Rukavina), and their three children; daughter Danette Loewen of Red Deer and her daughters, Katelyn Daoust (Peter) and Kallie (Brayden); daughter Darlene Laidlaw (Jim) of Calgary and their son, Liam (Danica), and daughter, Jane; son Derek Hill (Mellissa) of Whitecourt and their daughter, Isabella, and son, Soren.

Dennis was predeceased by his father and mother, Charles Edward and Dorothy (Mitchell) Hill, brothers Jim and Ken and sister Marilyn.

Dennis was born, grew up and was educated in the town of Edson, Alberta. He felt that he was born in the right place at the right time. Edson was a great place for a young man to grow up. Hunting, trapping, fishing, swimming, hockey, baseball and basketball, with a great group of friends along the way.

Dennis worked on seismic, drilling and pipeline crews, then on to three years with the Department of Highways, surveyor and road construction. His lifelong career started with Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas in 1966. During the next twenty-eight years, Dennis went from Roustabout to Operations Superintendent of the Edson/Whitecourt district. He retired in 1994 with Amoco Canada at age 53. Dennis worked as a consultant for several oil companies and then started his own company, Hill Resource Services, which developed emergency response plans for oil and gas production companies.

Dennis and Deanna travelled to numerous locations on vacations. Some of the highlights were Australia, New Zealand, London, Paris, Venice, Rome and Athens, among others. For many years they spent the winter months in Arizona or Florida. They enjoyed golfing, bocce and shuffleboard in Sun City, Arizona and loved their morning walks on Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, April 6th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Parish 4803 - 6th Ave. Edson, AB. The service will be followed by Interment and socializing with lunch.
