Dennis Banack Obituary

Dennis Banack passed away peacefully in the early morning of Aug 21, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Edson. He was 90 years old.

He was born to Tom and Agnes Banack and raised on a farm near Dinant in Camrose county. His father passed away at an early age so Dennis left school in grade 8 to help take care of the farm. His mother later moved to Camrose and lived well into her 90’s.

Dennis met his lifetime love, Angela, in Camrose and they married on June 8th, 1954, in Bashaw, Alberta, where Angela was from. They moved to Edson, where they built a family home, raised 4 young kids, and he continued in the plumbing & gas fitting trade. Dennis took a work opportunity in Jasper and brought his family there six years later, where he eventually started a successful company of his own.

They remained in Jasper for 35 wonderful years before moving back to Edson in 2007 into their first family home they had originally built, for another 13 years. It was hard to leave Jasper, but great to be back with family, and he thrived. Angela passed away in February of 2019 and Dennis continued on in the house independently, but always missing his wife.  Even at the age of 88, Edson and Jasper friends will recall his visits, many surprised at his youthfulness. It was just about a year and a half ago Dennis became ill and eventually moved to his daughter and son-in-law’s acreage, where he spent the rest of his days.

Dad absolutely loved to go for walks in Jasper and Edson, always with Mom along in the early days. He had a regular daily route in both towns.  After retiring, he picked up daily bike rides and work outs in his basement, until he finally had to trade these in at 89 for milder forms of exercise. His guitar and singing skills were back once again. Throughout life, he loved the special times fishing with his friends, and long camping trips with his siblings and their kids. Big family reunions were a proud moment, and he beamed at the simple times he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Garry (Pat) Banack, Lorraine (Bruce) Symes, David (Stacey) Banack, Marilyn (Bert) Beaupre, his sister Bernice and many wonderful sisters and brothers in law. Also his 11 grand-children; Cory (Erin), Scott (Stacy), Matt, Amanda (Ian), Justin, Alexander, Dominique, Christopher, Samuel, Katlin and Kevin. And his 6 great grandchildren; Ethan, Aiden, Adele, Jake, Sophia and Liam. Many nieces and nephews that knew him well!

Dennis was pre-deceased by his father and mother; Tom and Agnes, his three brothers; Ludic, Lawrence and Kenny, and his sister Irene.

Dad was a great man. Tough on the exterior, kindhearted inside, always loving. Rock solid and dependable. Self-less and strong. His humble and honest journey through life left us with an example we can now live for the rest of our lives. He is our inspiration.

There is no doubt we will always miss both Mom and Dad and love them forever.

Love,

Marilyn, David, Lorraine, Garry and families.
