David Lawrence Allen

On Thursday, January 6, 2022, Dave Allen died suddenly at home in Yellowhead County, Alberta. Dave was born June 20, 1943, in Newton Massachusetts to Richard and Virginia (Josselyn) Allen. After high school he volunteered for the U.S. Army, where the served from 1964 to 1967. He left the service as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic, which planted the seed for his lifelong career and passion as a mechanic. Dave attended the University of Fredericton where he met Sally Smith. They married in 1966. Dave and Sally started their family in Eastern Canada, living in New Brunswick and Newfoundland while he learned the Heavy-Duty Mechanic trade.  In 1981 opportunity knocked and the family moved to Edson, Alberta which was home for the rest of his life. He worked at Coal Valley until 2009. Bored of retirement, Dave started another career with Finning. He continued to work on the large mining equipment he loved until 2019.

He was fortunate that his work and pleasure overlapped. His passions were diesel engines and John Deere tractors. He loved people and was a loyal friend to a wide circle of friends and neighbors. Generous with his time, kind and interested in all kinds of people, Dave gave of himself to everyone he met.

Dave is survived by his children Anne Marie Allen, Richard Allen (Monica), Amanda Allen, and his grandson Edward Allen. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Sally, his daughter Nancy Allen, and his sister Jane Carder.

A celebration of life will be held on the last weekend of May at the farm. Details will be posted nearer to the date.
