Charles Campbell Obituary

Doug passed away quietly on October 14, 2022 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease following surgery.  He was in Grande Prairie Hospital and was 74 years old.  He had resided in Grande Cache, Alberta since 1972.

He was born in Vulcan Alberta on February 7, 1948.  His parents were Charles Hiram Campbell and Verna Mae Smith.  His father drowned in a boating accident when Doug was only six years old.  This and other factors lead him to be raised by his grandparents on their farm in Vulcan.  He graduated high school on a Friday and began work the next Monday.  He had strong work ethics, taught to him by his grandparents.  He had three younger sisters, Rae, Cheryl and Lorraine.  He worked a variety of jobs including climbing power poles, Millwright, Welder, Blaster, Baker, Manager of a liquor store and Produce manager at the grocery store.  While he was climbing power poles, he fell 40 feet to the ground below and only managed to sprain his ankle.  A very fortunate young man.  He worked in many places throughout Alberta at that time.

Doug met his wife in Grande Prairie and they were married on June 26, 1971.  They moved to Grande Cache in May of 1972 and had 51 happy years together.  Together they had a son, Charles Hiram Campbell (Chuck), born May of 1975.  Chuck had a long-term relationship with Sheri Shepherd, daughter of Tina Shepherd, all from Grande Cache.  They also had a daughter, Sharmon Dayle Smith Moberly, born in October of 1976.  Unfortunately, she passed away in October of 2010 at the age of 34.  She left behind four children. Kristi and Jefferey from a previous relationship, Triston and Dylan, with Reuben Moberly, son of Audrey Printup, also of Grande Cache, Alberta.  After Sharmon’s death Rueben stepped up and raised all four children as his own.  At the time of Doug’s passing, he had 4 grandchildren, 2 step-granddaughters (Megan & Olivia) and 5 great great grandchildren, (Lauren, Cashton, Isabelle, Eila, Adie).

Doug loved to sing.  Many weekends would see him working on the hall at the Royal Canadian Legion during his days off and then there again in the evening for karaoke.  For someone who didn’t say much, he could belt out the tunes.

Doug had many varied hobbies, interests and activities.  He played rec league hockey, was a certified Ham radio operator, building and flying remote control airplanes, coaching minor hockey, hunting fishing and camping to name a few.  He was very skilled in any projects around the house with the exception of a few strong backs to help wheel borrow concrete for the floor, he built, framed and wired a double wide plus garage by himself.  He also framed, plumbed, wired and dry walled a basement.  Any project he tackled it came out perfect.

In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Association of Alberta or a Charity of your choice.

An open house is to be held at a later date.
