It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Cecil Duane Gubbe, on August 31, 2025, at the age of 92, with his family by his side.
Cecil was born in Bjelde Creek, Saskatchewan, to Selma and Karl Gubbe. Cecil farmed in rural Battleford until asthma forced him and his family to move to Hinton in 1972.
Cecil worked at Cardinal River Coals mine, where he held many different positions until his retirement after 27 years.
Cecil's greatest pride and joy was his family: Diane Greenhalgh, Sheryl (Reg) Speed, Yvonne (Doug) Kemmer, Lana Gubbe, Maureen (Jack) Hunt, Myrna (Ken) Williams, Laverne (Bryant) Kellie.
There are 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren as well as siblings Eunice Hildebrandt, Loretta Lefebvre, Lorraine Reilly and many extended family and dear friends.
Cecil was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Joyce, his son Duane, great granddaughter Tessaundra, brother Dennis and son-in-law Jon.
A Graveside Service for Cecil Duane Gubbe will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Hinton AB, with Pastor Bill Bulger officiating.
In lieu of tributes, donations, if desired, may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1502 College Plaza, 8215-112St. Edmonton AB T6G 2C8, in memory of Cecil Duane Gubbe.
