Carther Thomas McPherson (“Cart”), tragically passed away in a car accident at 14 years of age, west of Hinton, Alberta, on October 6th, 2023.
Carther was born in Hinton, Alberta, on May 12, 2009.
Carther’s life was lived to the fullest, mainly pursuing outdoor activities. He rode his dirt bike and built trails in the woods during the spring, summer and fall since he was 4 years old. It was his number one passion. Carther was also an avid downhill skier in the winter, double black diamond runs were no match for him. He was fond of anything with an engine and could drive a standard transmission vehicle and tractor by age 12. He started building many projects with wood and was also excellent with anything mechanical. Carther enjoyed playing drums, he had recently started taking lessons. Carther always enjoyed riding horses with his grandfather and helping with chores around the farm. Carther’s love of being outside lent to time spent fishing in the pond, feeding and playing with the many animals on his family acreage, jumping on his trampoline and adventures with his friends. Carther was Eagle eyed and was a crack shot with his lever action .22; it is suspected the .22 ammunition shortage over the last few years was due in part to the thousands of rounds he put through his trusty rifle. Carther befriended the young and old alike, always making people comfortable with the twinkle in his eye, his infectious smile and his gentle soul. These characteristics were extended to his family and close friends a thousand times over.
Carther is survived by his immediate family, parents Rand and Carmelle McPherson of Hinton, his sisters Carmindy McPherson of Hinton and Jaime (Mike) McDonald of Fort Saskatchewan, his grandparents Tom and Donna McPherson of Edmonton, grandparents Carther and Valerie Rice of Hinton. Carther is also survived by his uncle Jordan (Michelle) Rice and cousin Norah Rice of Calgary, aunt Page McPherson and cousins Kate and Alex Kenner of Sherwood Park. Carther also had many other relatives too numerous to mention.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hinton Community Centre, October 22, 2023 @ 1:00 pm with refreshments and snacks to follow.
Please bring your memories, stories, and heart as we unite and honor Carther, smiling, as only he would want it.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Stollery Childrens Hospital in Carther’s name.
There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.
