After a short yet courageous battle with cancer, It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bryan Rodney Ollenberg announce his passing on January 19, 2020 in Hinton, AB at the age of 56.

Bryan was born in Edmonton, AB. He moved to Hinton when he was 12 where he met Gilda Mercier (his future wife). After years of moving around, Bryan found himself back in Hinton at the age of 18. Bryan and Gilda were reconnected and began dating on Gilda’s 18th birthday.  They married a year later on October 1,1983.

April 4, 1987 they welcomed their daughter Mallory and two years later on June 11th there son Andrew was born,  completing their family. Bryan and Gilda spent their life in Hinton raising their family. Bryan worked for the Town of Hinton for 10 years then in 1990 he began working for Weldwood. He devoted his life to the company for 29 years, working in the sawmill and more recently he took a job as the water treatment plant operator in the Pulp Mill where he worked until his diagnosis.

Bryan was known for his unique sense of humor, his love of camping and quadding and his love for making people laugh. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. He was often referred to as the life of the party.  Bryan spent years writing songs and poetry and in 1995 he travelled to Washington, DC to accept the International Poet of Merit award and was a distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets. Bryan also had numerous poem published throughout his life. Bryan was the type of man who would help anyone and everyone. He would literally give the shirt off his back if someone needed it.

Bryan leaves behind his devoted wife and soulmate Gilda, his daughter Mallory (Brad), son Andrew (Cassandra), His 3 beautiful granddaughters Rebecca, Harper and Everly and his long awaited grandson Arlo. Being an Opa was his greatest Joy.  He also leaves behind numerous family members, nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Bryan was predeceased by his mother Ruby, father Stan, Step father Gary, his brother, mother and father in-law Paulina and Maurice and brother in-law Bill.

The family would like to thank Dr. Beamish, Dr. Sorenson and the staff at the Hinton Health Care Center for their compassion, care and support through this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday January 25, 2020 at 2pm at the Hinton Center, 965 Switzer Drive. Luncheon to follow.
