It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Edward Frantz on March 22, 2026, at the age of 79.
Brian was born on December 10, 1946, in Mayerthorpe, Alberta. After finishing school, he began his career in the oilfield, traveling east and spending two years working on Sable Island. He later returned to Edmonton where he worked in pipelining and earned his welding apprenticeship. In 1975, Brian moved to Calgary, where he and Cheryl welcomed their daughter. In 1978, the family settled in Hinton, where their son was born. Brian dedicated over 40 years of his life to his trade as a welder, a career he took great pride in.
Brian is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Cheryl Frantz; his daughter Tanya Frantz; his son Tyler Frantz and daughter-in-law Melissa Frantz; and his beloved grand puppies, Charlie and Frank. He is also survived by his sisters Pat Rutherford (Rick), Linda Kitsco, and Gayle Gibbs (Jim); his brother Joe (Sylvia); his brothers-in-law Blair (Deb) Morris and Brian (Charlotte) Morris; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and Vivian Frantz, and his In-laws Chuck and Martha Morris.
Brian was an avid hunter, a devoted and enthusiastic Oilers fan, and a familiar face on the ball diamond and the ice, having played many years of slow pitch and old-timers hockey. He cherished time spent camping with family and friends. Known for his sense of humor and easygoing nature, Brian will also be fondly remembered as a striking look-alike of Kenny Rogers.
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society in his memory.
Brian will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
