Obituary

Beverly Eileen Hellum liked to be called Bev. She passed away at the age of 69 in the Hinton Hospital on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Born on May 30, 1956, in Galland, AB, to parents Doris and Chester Kiesal (predeceased), she was raised on a farm near Forestburg with two brothers and a sister. She was a member of the 4H club, where she raised calves and was part of the clothing club. She received many awards. She loved her cat Tomas, her guinee pig and dog. Bev went to school in Forestburg, where she graduated in 1974 and shortly after moved to Calgary. In 1976 she moved to Hinton, where she took a Clerk-typist course in 1980/81 which she passed with honors. Then she found a job at the Pulpmill as a Clerk. In 1982 she transferred to the Sawmill, where she met her husband, Otto. Years later she also took on a financial assistant position with the Union and joined the women’s committee.

Bev married Otto Hellum on September 8, 1990, at Pyramid Lake in Jasper National Park. They were together for 8 years prior. Bev and Otto lived in Hinton until 1995 when they bought an acreage in Entrance, AB. Their son Harley was born on August 31, 1996. Bev loved reading books, doing different kinds of artwork and cross-stitch. She would always take in stray animals. She also enjoyed camping and quadding.

She is survived by her husband Otto, son Harley, niece Rose Kakakauay of Hinton, sister Joyce Stieger of Camrose and brother Ken Kiesal (Lisa) of Sylvan Lake, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, brother-in-law Ron Hellum of Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, sister-in-law Bonnie (Garry) Dziwenka of Sherwood Park, brother-in-law Dennis (April) Hellum of Hinton, sister-in-law Serena Hellum of Sherwood Park, as well as her cats…

Bev was predeceased by brother Paul Kiesal (Leisa Ferguson) of Forestburg and sister-in-law Barb (Ron) Hellum of Hinton.

Donations in memory of Bev may be made to Hinton SPCA or Hinton Spay and Neuter Society.

Bev was fun, loving and charitable.
