Audrey Hansen Obituary

Our hearts are filled with sadness with the passing of our beloved mother, Audrey Louise Hansen, on May 17, 2026, at the age of 91.

Mom lived a long and meaningful life filled with love, devotion, strength and kindness.  She was born on February 2, 1935, in Edson, Alberta, to Octor (“Curly”) and Hazel Hewins, the sixth of fifteen children in a large and loving family.  She was the cherished wife of Bert for 63 years until his passing earlier this year.  Mom was a devoted mother to Glen (Brenda) and Audra (Dave); a proud grandmother to Jessica (Mackenzie), Jordan (Sara), Brett, Lauren, Devin and Logan; and a treasured great-grandmother to Hartley, Lainey and Jamesy.  She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

In her early adulthood, Mom faced a period of illness that required time in Edmonton for medical care.  During this time, she completed correspondence classes to finish Grade 12.  Following her recovery, she began working at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Edmonton and later transferred to Hinton.  Although Mom had met Bert before moving to Hinton, it was there that they began their life together.  Mom and Dad were married on May 19, 1962, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. After working at the bank, Mom later joined Bert at the Esso Bulk Station, where they worked side by side until their retirement in 1993.

Mom found joy in the simple and beautiful moments of life – family dinners, travelling, gardening, curling, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She especially enjoyed her yearly, and often twice-yearly, trips to Las Vegas, Jackpot, and Laughlin to gamble, and she was usually quite lucky.  We often said she had good karma.  A true acreage lover at heart, Mom found immense joy in the quiet beauty of nature, taking her daily walks around the property and tending to her large garden.  She was an avid curler for as long as she was able.

Mom spent her life caring deeply for her family and will be remembered for her selfless nature and enduring optimism.  She never complained and always saw the good in others.

Her legacy will live on in the family she loved so dearly and in the many lives she touched throughout her 91 years.

We are deeply grateful to the wonderful staff at Pine Valley Lodge for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Mom in her final years.  Their kindness meant so much to Mom and to our family.

A Memorial Service to honour and celebrate Mom’s life will be held at the Hinton Alliance Church at 1:00 p.m. on June 16, 2026.
