Anne Basaraba Obituary

With great sadness and many special memories to cherish, we say goodbye to Anne, our mother, grandmother, baba, sister, aunt and friend.

Anne was born in Poland on July 9, 1934, and at the age of five, she came to Canada with her parents and two brothers after leaving the Ukraine. The family settled in Shipman, Saskatchewan, and it was there that Anne met and married Tony Basaraba in 1953. In 1956, Tony, Anne, son Bruce and daughter Patty, moved to Paradise Valley, Alberta, where they enjoyed life in a small community and made many life-long friends. In 1970, the family, now joined by son Tim, moved to Hinton, Alberta, where they experienced life near the mountains and began to enjoy camping, fishing and spending time with friends. Tony and Anne left Hinton in 1985 and after two years in Barrhead, Alberta, they retired in Spruce Grove, Alberta, where they enjoyed making new friends, growing beautiful gardens and exploring Edmonton and all its attractions. Anne enjoyed traveling to visit family, and her and Tony put a lot of miles on in the various motorhomes they had through the years. After 21 years living in Spruce Grove, they settled in Vegreville, Alberta, in 2008. In April 2019, they once again moved to Hinton to be near family. Anne was in her element when she knew friends or family were coming to visit as she made the best perogies, cabbage rolls, breads, buns and cakes, and we would always go home with some of her delicious treats.

Above all else, Anne loved time spent with her precious family. We all have wonderful memories of so many special occasions spent with her. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and, later on, her great-grandchildren. They all have unique and lovely memories of her.

Left to treasure memories of Anne are her children, Bruce (Colleen) Basaraba of Kelowna, and Patty (Bob) Viney of Hinton; grandchildren, Brendan (Kim) Viney and their children Lorelei and Ethan; Cory (Michelle) Viney and their children Calla and Nash; Darin (Janelle) Viney and their children Lennon and Tenley; and Tim's daughter Holly Basaraba. Anne also leaves to mourn her brother Bill (Peggy) Tkachuk, sister Mary Ford (Lorne), sister Helen Cheney, sister Molly (Bob) Ceighton, brother Danny (Marilyn) Tkachuk, sister-in-law Mary Basaraba, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Tony, son Timothy, parents Daniel and Molly Tkachuk, sisters Phillis Tkachuk and Lil Wingerchuk and brother John Tkachuk.
