Alice Catherine Yates

1932 –2019

It is with hearts full of sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Alice Yates, on Sunday March 10th, 2019 in Hinton Alberta surrounded by her family.

Alice was raised on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. Calling Terrace Bay home for many years where she married husband Jack Yates and raised five children: Jacqueline, Betty, Fuzz, Caroline and Charlene. Later moving west to the Rocky Mountains and eventually settling in Hinton Alberta where she spent her last 31 years.

Alice is survived by her loving children Jacqueline Sopel, Betty (Bob) Oksanen, Clarence Fuzz (Roseanne) Yates, Caroline (Darrell) Gorman and Charlene McClelland. Alice is also survived by her sister Violet Turnbull of Thunder Bay Ontario, all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice is predeceased by both parents, James and Clarice Lawrence, husband Jack Yates, sisters Jean Fisher, Shirley Hanlon, Lynda Wills and son-in-law’s Lynn Merkley and Steve McClelland.

Alice was a very loving person who knew how to keep up, have a great time and never missed a family function.  She will be missed at future events such as family gatherings where it was only tradition to have her attention taken by the all the great grandkids! Alice will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends as we all enjoy the little things Alice loved most. She loved a warm campfire and to out fish you at your favorite honey hole, in your own boat, at the derby or anywhere for that matter.  We will fish on for you Ma!

We will celebrate our Mother, Sister, Aunt, Gramma and Friend at 2:00pm on Friday, March 15th, 2019 at Lutheran Church Grace, 102 Sunwapta Dr, Hinton, AB.

Alice will spread her wings back to Terrace Bay, Ontario where she will rest with husband Jack Yates at a later date.
