It is with great sadness the Leslie family announces the passing of Alexander Leslie in Edson, Alberta.
Alexander (Zander) was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. He married his wife, Alice, at the age of 27 and they were married for 49 beautiful years. In 1981, Zander accepted a career move with Luscar Sterco, so along with their three boys, the family immigrated to Canada. Zander worked as a Millwright Heavy Duty Mechanic through many company ownerships and finally retired in 2020 after 39 years of service and dedication. He was known for inventing tools, problem solving, as well as building parts for equipment that was no longer in production.
Together Zander and Alice built a beautiful life. They both supported and encouraged their sons in all aspects of their upbringing and through to their adult life. Both were avid gardeners and enjoyed every square foot of their Leslie Estate. They enjoyed cultivating beautiful flowerbeds full of many plant species, concrete garden décor, and garden lighting. Flowers lined the walkways and adorned every part of their yard. Zander may be remembered for his love of the pipe, Erinmore tobacco, Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, his love of Scotland and World history. He enjoyed traveling back home to Scotland to see family and touring about. He loved trips to Victoria to tour the oceanside and Butchart Gardens.
In his downtime, you could find him in his recliner, with a dram and his pipe, while watching football (soccer), antique roadshow, the Smithsonian channel, and cussing at the Oilers.
Alexander was a quiet private man, who lived his life with distinction and integrity. He valued his family, his children, his 5 granddaughters, along with several nieces, and nephews overseas. He was fortunate in life to have some truly remarkable friends and neighbors who visited and shared coffee/meal outings, supported him in the changes of life. Friends who stopped by with treats, photos, meals, a wee drinkie, stories and camaraderie.
These are the moments we know that enriched his life immensely.
Alexander is survived by his three sons.
Neil (Carla-Jo) Leslie, their children Lauren (Tyler) Leslie, and Camryn Leslie of Edson, Alberta.
Colin (Tanya) Leslie, their children Isla, Malin and Mara of Calgary, Alberta.
Scott Leslie, his girlfriend Carolyn of Edson, Alberta.
Many loving members of extended family in Fife, Scotland.
Alexander was predeceased by his wife, Alice Leslie, in 2019. Brother; Robert Leslie. Brother in Laws; Dave Ingram, Maurice Hamilton, Sister in laws; Margaret Ingram, Christine Riggans.
A private Memorial Celebration will be held by immediate family.
