Verlin Chaffee Obituary

 IN LOVING MEMORY

Verlin Winfield Chaffee

December 10, 1937 ~ September 15, 2018

Mr. Verlin Winfield Chaffee passed away in Grande Cache, Alberta on September 15, 2018 at the age of 80 years old.

Verlin was born on December 10, 1937 in Willesden Green, Alberta to parents Hardin and Lorna (Laye) Chaffee and was raised alongside 7 siblings.

Verlin is fondly remembered for his amazing artistic talent – from drawing and painting to his beautiful singing voice. He was a proud member of a choir group in Edmonton and the Palette Pals art club in Grande Cache. He loved the mountains, horses, animals of all kinds, his children, friends and family. He loved talking about his pack trips into the splendor of Wilmore Wilderness Park and being the camp cook. He was a fantastic cook – and home or in the bush! Spaghetti and apple pie was his specialty. Verlin’s heart was always warmed with his annual family reunions and coffee visits with his friends.

Verlin worked many jobs in his life – from the oil rigs, taxi driver, heavy equipment operator, camp cook in the bush and hosting Saturday night karaoke. He volunteered his time to cook for aboriginal youth through the Native Recreation Program and the kid’s church at Cornerstone Mountain Assembly. Most of his life was spent in the Rimby/Edmonton area and Grande Cache, Alberta.

Verlin is lovingly survived by his 6 siblings; Connie McLean (Allan), Dale Chaffee (Julie), Yvonne Schreiber (Ed), Joe Chaffee (Judy), Dennis Chaffee (Gale) and Donna (Bob) Hoskins; 9 children Susan Chaffee, Shawn Bamford, Dale Bamford, Zena Johnson (Bamford), Ron Chaffee, David Chaffee, Reese Chaffee, Rhian Chaffee and Morgan Boras (Chaffee); 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.

Verlin is predeceased by his parents Hardin and Lorna (Laye) Chaffee and 1 younger brother Navarro Chaffee.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Cornerstone Mountain Assembly (11001 Leonard St. Grande Cache, Alberta.)  Verlin will be laid to rest in the Grande Cache Cemetery immediately following the Service. Subsequently, a time of fellowship and refreshments will be held back at the Cornerstone Mountain Assembly.
