Thomas Roycraft
1928-2019
Thomas Albert Roycraft of Hinton, Alberta passed away peacefully on December 24, 2019. Tom was born in Edmonton, Alberta on September 19, 1928. Since childhood, Tom loved nature and the outdoors. After working as a Search and Rescue Technician for the Royal Canadian Air Force, he moved to Hinton in 1958 to begin his work as Chief Civilian Instructor at the Canadian Forces Survival Training School at Jarvis Lake. Tom was a respected teacher of bushcraft and survival to military and civilian students from around the world.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Arlyn Roycraft; his children, Ernest Roycraft, James Roycraft, Barbara (David) Madsen, and Elaine (Richard) Webb; his eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Ruth Roycraft; his four sisters, Joy, Rae, Fay and Iva; and his infant son, Timothy.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. For those who wish, a donation in Tom’s name can be made to the Hinton and District SPCA or the Hinton & District Spay and Neuter Society.
