Ted Gardiner

1958-2019

Ted Gardiner of Edson, Alberta, loved dearly by his family and friends, passed away suddenly on October 11, 2019 at the age of 61.

Ted was born February 16, 1958 in Edmonton, Alberta to Alice and Allen Gardiner. He was the 8th child in a family that would soon consist of 8 girls and 3 boys. Ted grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon surrounded by family and friends.

He met his future wife Betty in 1978. Years later they settled down on a piece of land outside of Edson where they started a family of their own - David in 1983, Sarah in 1985 and Scott in 1987. In those early years Ted built their first family home next to his brother Rick. He would go on to run a lumber mill with his brother and close friend Al and later take a job at Weyerhaeuser, where he worked for 20 years and became a power engineer.   

Ted loved hockey. He joined organized hockey when he was 10 years old and continued to play the rest of his life, never missing a game. He played for years with his friends and co-workers on the Weyerhaeuser Wings and in more recent years The Edson Old Timers.

Anyone who knew Ted knew of his kids and grandkids. He was the most loving and involved father. Ted was always there for his kids, bringing them to practises, going to recitals, traveling on buses; always supporting and cheering them on in whatever they chose to do. As a papa, Ted enjoyed his grandkids and his grandkids enjoyed him. Wrestling, boating, pitching hundreds of baseballs, decorating the Christmas tree and spending hours at the arena watching them play his beloved sport hockey. Ted lived up to the title Papa and loved every minute of it.

In the last 5 years Ted found his way back out to the bush where he, his sons, and friends and family have been building a cabin on land his grandfather used to own. This is a piece of Ted’s legacy left behind for his family to cherish.

Ted will be remembered and missed dearly by his son David (Stacey), daughter Sarah, son Scott (Ashtyn), his granddaughter Jettah and grandsons Kolby and Trig. Also by his 2 brothers, 8 sisters, extended family and several nephews, nieces and their families. Ted was predeceased by his mother Alice and father Allen. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday,  October 17, 2019 at the Edson Royal Canadian Legion, 5016 – 5 Avenue, Edson, AB.
