Robert “Grant” Whitehead passed away on September 18, 2018 in Edson, Alberta at the age of 85.

Grant was born on September 28, 1932 in Oakland County, Michigan to parents John and Marguerite Whitehead. He was raised with 5 siblings; Ada, Ruth, Florence, Lawrence and Norman.

Grant worked at many places throughout his life, from Southern Alberta to the North – farming, walking a pipeline to truck driving. His last job was for the Highways Department. He drove sand truck in the worst possible conditions in the winter time.

Grant loved watching baseball – the Blue Jays were his favorite team. He also enjoyed word searches… his family made sure he was well supplied with a stack of word search books! Once he had his cateracs removed and his new lenses put in, he went through word searches fast and was absolutely thrilled that he could see without his glasses. Grant enjoyed a good game of crib as well. Scratch tickets were a great past time as well, but if he won he would give them to his grandchildren to take them in and would let them buy more with the winnings or take the cash.

Grant is survived by his three children, Elizabeth “Jane” Arndt (Luie); Robert “Bob” Michael Whitehead (Betty) and Debora Mary Whitehead, grandchildren Michael Arndt; Christopher Arndt (Candace), Cory Arndt (Tanya), Malissa Teichroeb (Mike), Shannon Ziebarth and David Spares; great-grandchildren Chastyn, Serenity, Tiana, Tayler, Hunter, Robert, Vanessa and Jayden; brother-in-law Gorden Edgerton (High River, Alberta); sisters-in-law Ethel Hingsburer (Sundre, Alberta) and Mary Digweed (Airdrie, Alberta) ; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Grant was predeceased by his wife Margaret Pearl Whitehead, parents John and Marguerite; along with his siblings Ada Stilling, Ruth Mackenzie, Florence Edgerton, Lawrence Whitehead and Norman Whitehead.

A  Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edson, Alberta. Grant will be laid to rest in the Glenwood Cemetery following the Mass. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held back at the Church after the interment.
